Only the selected public feed is requested from USGS. Scriptiii does not store event data or request your location.

Read magnitude and depth together

Magnitude measures the event’s size. Depth is the estimated distance below the surface; the same magnitude can be felt differently at different depths and distances. Event details may change after review.

Source and limits

The list uses USGS GeoJSON summary feeds, not an earthquake prediction model. The dotted globe uses the MIT-licensed COBE component, as used by the Lightswind globe reference. It shows up to 100 recent events from the selected feed. Open the linked USGS event page for revised details and official products.

Earthquake feed questions

How current are these events?

USGS publishes frequently refreshed summary feeds. This page shows the feed generation time and the reported event time; events can be revised or removed as scientists review them.

Does this predict earthquakes?

No. It lists reported events. Magnitude, depth and location are observations, not forecasts or personal safety advice.

Can I open an event on a map?

Yes. The globe places reported coordinates over a dotted world map. Drag to rotate it or select an event to center the globe there. Hover, focus or tap a marker for details.
