Fill a PDF form

Load a fillable PDF, answer its real fields, and download a copy — flattened if you want the answers locked in.

Your answers stay in this tab. The form is filled and saved locally.

Short answer: drop the form, type into the fields that appear, and download. Leave “Flatten” checked if the file is going to someone who should not change it. Fields the document refuses are reported by name.

Fillable is a property of the file, not of how it looks

A form printed to PDF looks the same as one exported with fields, but only the second has widgets that accept input. This tool reads the document's field dictionary, so the list you see is the real one — including dropdown options and checkboxes. When there is no dictionary, it says so instead of pretending the page can be typed on.

Why flatten before sending

Different viewers render form values differently, and some print an empty form even though it looks filled on screen. Flattening writes the values into the page itself, which removes that whole class of surprise at the receiving end.

Form filling questions

Which forms can be filled?

PDFs that contain an AcroForm — the standard interactive fields that most government and bank forms use. XFA forms (an older proprietary format) have no fields this tool can read, and it says so instead of showing an empty list. A flat, printed PDF with lines on it also has nothing to fill; those need a text overlay, which is a different job.

What does flattening do?

It draws the current values into the page content and removes the interactive fields. The result looks identical when printed, cannot be edited afterwards, and no longer depends on a viewer rendering the form. If you might need to correct an answer later, download the unflattened version first.

Are my answers uploaded?

No. The PDF is parsed and rewritten in this tab with pdf-lib, and the values never leave the machine. That matters more for a form than for most files: it usually carries a name, an address and an account number.

Why did one field reject my value?

Fields can constrain their own input — a dropdown only accepts its listed options, and a read-only field accepts nothing. Rejected fields are reported by name with the reason, so you can see which answer did not land instead of discovering it later.
