Comments and widgets removed

Remove annotations from a PDF

Comments, highlights, stamps and links are objects inside the file. This removes them from a copy, leaving the pages themselves exactly as printed.

The document is edited in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.

Short answer: drop the PDF and download the cleaned copy. Every annotation goes: comments, highlights, stamps, links and form widgets. Page content is not re-rendered, so text stays selectable and the layout cannot shift.

What a comment really is

A sticky note is not part of the page; it is a separate object that points at a rectangle on the page. That is why a commented document can look clean in one viewer and cluttered in another, and why printing often drops the notes while the file still carries them. Removing the annotation array removes the pointers, and with them the notes.

Where a link goes

Hyperlinks are annotations as well. Cleaning a document before publishing it to a portal is often exactly what you want — an internal review link should not ship — but it also removes the table of contents links inside the file, so keep a copy if those matter.

Annotation questions

What exactly is removed?

Every annotation object on every page: comments, highlights, underlines, sticky notes, freehand ink, stamps, file attachments shown on the page, hyperlinks and form widgets. The page content itself — the text and images that make up the document — is not touched.

Why did my PDF form disappear?

In PDF, a form field is a kind of annotation (a widget). Removing all annotations removes the form as well, so the fields stop being fillable. The result line says when a form was dropped; if you need the form, fill and flatten it instead.

Do comments I added stay in the file after printing?

Comments are part of the file and travel with it whether or not they print. That is why a document reviewed internally can carry notes into a version sent to someone else. This tool removes them from the copy you download; the original file on your disk is untouched.

Is this real redaction?

No. Removing a comment deletes the comment object, but the visible text on the page is still text. If the goal is to hide a name or an account number, use the redact tool, which turns the marked pages into images so the characters are genuinely gone.
